With 2,46,628 novel coronavirus cases, India has now become the fifth worst-hit nation after the US, Brazil, Russia and Britain, overtaking Spain’s tally. According to the latest health ministry data, the death toll in the country stands at 6,929. However, the nation looks forward to easing lockdown norms with operations at restaurants, shopping malls, places of worship and offices set to resume from Monday in all places except the containment zones. Several states have issued SOPs ahead of the reopening. Meanwhile, Global cases of the novel coronavirus topped 7 million on Saturday, while deaths from the novel coronavirus are approaching 400,000 worldwide. According to the latest health ministry data, India recorded the highest spike of 9,971 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the coronavirus tally in the country to 2,46,628. With fresh figures, India surpassed Spain’s tally to become fifth worst-hit nation by the novel coronavirus. Also, 287 deaths due to the virus were reported in a day, bringing death toll to 6,929.
